Who am I?

My name is Stephanie Elmensdorp, born in 1986 and raised in Dordrecht. I live in Rotterdam since 2015.

Why black & white?

In my opinion, black and white photography is so much more powerful than color because it brings out the person's authenticity with all of its facial features. This is the same for street photography; a street or a building also has its own character and this is something you should be able to see. Even before I shoot the photo, I can already see the end result. The architecture or lines in a building are reinforced and more powerful when you photograph them in black & white. I think you will not achieve the same effect with color. That's why I decided to only shoot in black & white.

What inspires me?

I have always been attracted by the work of the world famous fashion photographer named Peter Lindbergh. I was so amazed and impressed by his raw looking portraits because of the purity of the people he brought back into his work. To reach that level, you need to be well connected to the person in front of your camera and put them at ease, otherwise it won't work out. That is always something I keep in mind, besides using his style as a kind of inspirational guideline for both portrait and street photography.

And now?

For now I mainly want to focus and develop myself in portrait and street photography (or a combination of the two). Take a look at my portfolio to check out my work so far. If you are interested in a portrait shoot or a collaboration; just send me a message and let's talk!
